Effect of Tea

Tea has been used as medicine from old times in China. As time goes by, it has been handed down to Japan and some monks and the nobility started enjoying it.

At the end of Kamakura-era, tea has spread to the samurai class as sadō (Japanese tea ceremony), and during those times, it also spread to the common people, relieving their thirst.

In recent years, we are able to buy and enjoy various kinds of bottled or canned teas from vending machines or convenience stores. As time goes by, its appearance and the way we enjoy it have been changed.

Since we can take in many vitamins by drinking tea, it helps our skin condition, eliminating wastes from the body by diuretic effect, and even anti-aging by antioxidant effect.

Taking in tea with a meal leads to decreasing body fat, since catechin restrains the fat from being absorbed into our bodies.

  Healing

Tea is an aromatic flavorful drink.

Heated tea forms aromatic flavor, called “火香” (hika), from amino-acid and a saccharide reacting together.

High-class teas, such as “玉露” (Gyokuro) or “煎茶” (Sencha), form vitamin U when heated up.
The peculiar aroma in such high-class tea’s hika smells like “青海苔” (Aonori; green laver), which is released when the vitamin U is resolved.

In the case of tea, called “Houjicha”, a lot of kahi; ‘heating-up aroma ingredient’ are formed in the process of roasting, which makes the tea pleasant-smelling.
In the case of teas such as “Oolong tea” or “English tea”, the aromatic ingredients are formed in the process of fermentation, after plucking.
You can smell aroma, such as fruits of Tieguanyin, muscats flavor from Darjeeling tea, rose and fruits’ sweet flavors from high-class teas...

Such smell of tea has aromatherapy effect, refreshing people’s mind or releasing stresses.
